Clinical Supervision in Farnham
A steady, reflective companion in your professional life — with 30 years of experience as an integrative counsellor and clinical supervisor
In emotional terms clinical supervision can feel as though you have a steady reflective companion in your professional life — someone who will help you to make sense of what you are carrying. When I am working with supervisees I do my best to offer a space where you can speak honestly about any confusion, self-doubt, frustration, strong reactions or mistakes without needing to appear fully certain or emotionally untouched.
What clinical supervision offers
With 30 years of experience as an integrative counsellor and clinical supervisor I will help you to separate what belongs to the client, what belongs to you as the therapist and what may be happening in the relationship between you both. Counselling can be emotionally demanding and sometimes lonely and supervision reminds us that we are not working alone when we feel overwhelmed or personally affected.
However clinical supervision is not only about solving problems. We might explore questions such as ‘why did I feel protective of this client?’ ‘Why did I dread this session?’ ‘What came up for me emotionally in this session?’ These reflections deepen self-awareness and professional maturity.
There may be times when I question assumptions, point out blind spots or raise ethical concerns and this can feel uncomfortable — but ideally it will happen in an honest and respectful relationship which you and I will have enjoyed building together from the start in a space behind the therapy room. Above all I believe that good clinical supervision is containing, respectful and thoughtfully challenging rather than judgmental or controlling.
